Recognized for Excellence in Financial Reporting
Stella Smith accepts the award on behalf of the school system from Wayne Turner
and the GA Dept. of Audits and Accounts
The Early County Board of Education was recently awarded the Award of Distinction for Excellent Financial Reporting
by the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts. The award was established to recognize the better practices for financial reporting and controls. The award encourages Local Boards of Education to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles and recognizes individual school districts that are successful in achieving that goal.
The award of distinction was presented to organizations that submitted quality financial statements and supporting documentation in a timely manner, whose annual financial report was given an unmodified audit opinion and was free of any significant deficiencies or material weaknesses, and complied with all Transparency in Government requirements. At his presentation to the Early County Board of Education on June 10, 2014, Department of Audits and Accounts representative Wayne Turner said that the Early County School System was in the 15% of systems audited this year that received this award. Superintendent Dr. Bronwyn Ragan-Martin praised Assistant Superintendent of Finance/CFO Stella Smith and her department for their work that culminated in this recognition.
